Release Duvs are Bred for Show and Flying

Here's a new kind of Pigeon Pageant that combines the challenge of breeding for show quality with the challenge of breeding for performance and flying skill competition.  A Release Duv Competition allows breeders to meet, discuss birds, judge them for show quality, and release them to judge flying skill.  Release Duvs are rated on two levels.  Half their rating is based on show qualities.  After the show judging, the birds are released and scored for flying skill.

The Flyoff - Judging for Flying Skill

For those who enjoy flying, Release Duvs are a great new addition to the pigeon hobby.

  • They don’t require special equipment such as expensive clocks or elaborate traps.

  • Unlike many of the roller and tippler contests where the judge and audience must travel to each loft, Release Duvs allow flyers to meet together, in a central location where the birds can be judged for show quality and then released to judge flying skill.

  • Flyers for the first time, may be able to compete with others as far as 600 miles away.  Flyers in Portland could compete with Seattle, Boise, or San Francisco.

  • Release Duvs don’t require special training such as to a car top loft.  Flyoff

Show Quality - Judging for Beauty

For show fanciers, Release Duvs are not only beautiful but provide one of those rare opportunities to join a new breeding project early in its development.  Goals of this project require an all new tail, flared wide but held low.  Other areas that distinguish this project include beautiful eyes, short legs, and wings held low.  Show Standard

Utility Income

Release Duvs provide true utility with their unique ability to awe and inspire.  These Release Duvs are destined to become the bird of choice for weddings, funerals and all big events.  They were first flown in public at Nike’s 1998 World Masters opening ceremony in Portland, Oregon.

Judging

Release Duvs of the Ceremony Dove Service are judged for both show quality and flying skill.  During flight they are judged first on how long they stay in the viewing area.  Second, they are judged on how quickly they leave the sky after leaving the viewing area.  Example Score Card
