Wynn's Premises
Words are simply the best compromise for expressing an idea.
Any thought sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from babble... and vice versa.
Those realities that have the most connections are the most important.
#0 -
#1 -
#2 - F1s aren't judgable. Judge the F1s by measuring the F2s.
Those genes that effect a common area tend to live on the same chromosome. Therefore, it is only the
crossover that can bring improvement to that area.
Great genetic improvements come from crossovers.
39 out of 40 chromosomes don't matter.
Great crossovers can't occur when too many genes are homozygous.
Uniform population equals stagnation.
Line-breeding only works with highly-refined specimens. Consider the case of line-breeding with a
specimen whose good features are the result of hybrid vigor.
A good breeding program will allow good co-dominant genes to exist.
Maintain diversity through sub-families.
Need A & B Star Families and Satellites of the Star Families.
Incross: to Breed between a Star Family and one of its Satellite Families.
Radiantcross: Breed between a Star and the Satellite of a different Star.
Use Sub-Families to:
- OX to get the XO
- develop/isolate new gene combinations
- detect subtle improvements even in inferior birds
- combine the improvements of sub-families
Breeding Coefficients Matter
- They determine how much destruction might be done to carefully built homozygotes.
- They determine how much construction can be done ... how many of the new gene combinations will "set".
Judge the Judgeable
- F2+ Generation
- After Molt
- Appropriate Test
- Old enough for distance
- Kind to docile tested
- Fertile in clean environment
- Attributes vs. Math Score
- Selection in proper order
- first fly score, then looks, then color, then distance, etc.
